I was going to say that you have to work hard to be this wrong, but then I realized due to the length and quality of this post that you actually in fact did work hard on this and I respect that a lot, so now I'm a subscriber.
You included Gary Jules version of Mad World but not in the category I expected: Greatest Covers That Are Better Than the Originals...” At one Tears for Fears concert I went to, Gary Jules opened, did his cover, and when TFF did the original during their set, some drunk guy was yelling, “This ain’t your song!”
Yeah, the Randy Newman omission was jaw-dropping. And if the NYT list did nothing else, it got me to rediscover a LOT of great Newman records I haven't listened to in years. (Also, THANK YOU for becoming a paid subscriber. I need to start making t-shirts for this exclusive club. Maybe featuring Randy Newman?)

Hilarious!
Thanks for this. The NYT list sparked some good conversations in this house. We tried to keep our minds open, but, c'mon... no Randy Newman?
And this post turned me into a paid subscriber.

Not the “My Bodyguard” soundtrack?
As long as Dolly Parton is getting residuals, I'll allow it.
"Methodology note: Albums were ranked by how quickly the owner says, “You probably haven’t heard this.”
Love that one.
Thanks for the laughs, observations and yes, the lists.
I started to write a list of "Most Hated Legendarily Unreleased Albums" but once I got to this, the list was complete:
1. Moist and Soiled — Nickelback
1.5. The Sick, Sad Elevation and Descent of Moisty the Clown — Watkins-Glitter-Kelly-Jackson Quartet.
